General Mills today announced plans to close its yogurt manufacturing facility in Methuen, Mass.

The company said it is optimizing its yogurt manufacturing network, consolidating production at other facilities within the General Mills supply chain.

The company expects the transition to be completed by late summer of 2015.

The decision will impact 144 employees. General Mills said it will provide severance and transition benefits to all affected employees.

General Mills has operated the plant in Methuen since 1993.
