Workplace safety

The focus on workplace safety at General Mills is unwavering: understanding and addressing critical risks to our people and the environment.

In this section:

Designing work for safety and productivity

We build safety into how we work, designing systems that enable our workers to fail safely and engaging people differentially to learn where we can improve.

We approach workplace safety and environmental protection through a comprehensive lens. We use standardized systems globally, and our Safety 2.0 strategy and leadership philosophy drives engagement, operational learning, and continuous improvement.

Our Safety 2.0 approach enables us to learn about, prioritize, and invest in improved controls around our most critical risks though differential leadership. We ask questions to learn how work is done to identify what controls are effective, and where our systems need to be more resilient.

What we track

Understanding safety performance depends on data.

Our Environmental and Safety Management System is our company-wide system used at all General Mills locations globally to ensure consistent safety and environmental standards.

Our Global Safety Tracking and Environmental Management System helps teams track safety data and prioritize prevention efforts.

Our culture of learning

Our Safety 2.0 approach has been deployed to all our manufacturing locations, and we facilitate advanced methods for operational learning globally. Additionally, questions to address employee safety are part of our company's annual survey process.

How progress builds

Safety improves when trust and psychological safety improves.

Through engaging leadership, we’ve improved our capability to identify, discuss, and prioritize solutions to address critical risk and provide safer workplaces and protect the environment.
