General Mills is committed to valuing diversity in all aspect of its supply chain. We have had an established Supplier Diversity Program in North America for over 50 years and have recently expanded our program globally. General Mills considers a diverse supplier as one that is at least 51% owned, managed, and operated by a person or persons that identify in one of the following groups:

  • Minorities (in country where company is headquartered)
  • Women
  • LGBTQ+
  • Veterans
  • Disabled
”For General Mills, success means deeply understanding the lives of our increasingly diverse consumers — something that’s only possible with the insight born from a workforce and supply chain of many perspectives, ideas and backgrounds. We’re proud to make food people love, and diversity in all we do ensures we’re able to continue doing just that.” – Jeff Harmening, CEO

General Mills highly recommends certifying your business. Certifying agencies provide access to government contracts, support networks, new customers at events or on social media, and opportunities for professional development. They also offer extensive research on issues such as gender and race in business. If you’d like additional information on the benefits of certification, please reach out to supplier.diversity@genmills.com or visit the website of our partners below:

General Mills is glad to invite you to participate in a preliminary Request for Information (RFI). Please note this RFI does not guarantee business. The purpose of the Diverse Supplier Preliminary RFI is to connect your company with General Mills for potential future business, so we request you to read all information carefully and respond with appropriate answers. Please answer all questions as concisely as possible. All answers will be kept confidential and internal. This should take between 20-40 minutes and does not allow you to save and return to the questionnaire later so please be prepared to answer all questions in one setting. The questions will ask basic company information, legal information, prior experience and capabilities.

If you are a current supplier of General Mills, please contact supplier.diversity@genmills.com to ensure we have your latest certification recorded.

Tier 2 Program

A Supplier Diversity Tier 2 program is when General Mills reaches out to its Tier 1 Suppliers/Primes to find out who are their diverse suppliers. The Primes report how much spend they had with each diverse group and General Mills counts a portion of that spend, proportional to our spend with the Prime, in our total diverse spend.
General Mills is starting to do collect this information for several reasons.

It allows us to increase our total diverse spend, especially in categories where it is harder for us to engage directly with diverse suppliers
General Mills values diversity and wants to encourage and support those who share similar values
Supplier Diversity Tier 2 Programs are becoming a standard in the CPG and Food & Beverage Industries

If you are a current supplier and would like to participate in our Supplier Diversity Tier 2 Program, please reach out to supplier.diversity@genmills.com
