Diversity and inclusion is not just the right thing to do, it’s essential for the growth of our company. General Mills products are found in more than 100 countries around the globe, and it’s critical that our teams and suppliers represent the wide expanse of people we serve—especially given the cultural nature of food. Our leadership team consists of women, men, leaders born outside the U.S., leaders who have spent their careers at General Mills and those who are very new to the company—and that’s just the beginning. To drive our business toward the future we must continue to foster an inclusive workforce of the future. We strive to be unafraid of truly embracing and encouraging the exchange of ideas, in a safe and respectful environment.

 

 

A few details on our approach to global inclusion:

  • Our CEO personally reviews our diversity and inclusion progress quarterly and sets the tone for Global-Inclusion-feature accountability throughout the company.
  • We have a dedicated company-wide strategy that focuses on global Workforce Inclusion, Cultural Inclusion, Consumer Inclusion and Societal Inclusion.
  • Our senior leaders reinforce a culture of inclusion throughout the company by sponsoring employee networks and recruiting and mentoring diverse employees.
    • Employee networks: Asian Leaders, Betty’s Family (LGBT), Black Champions, Hispanic, Women in Leadership and Veterans.
  • In 2017, we expanded our Courageous Conversations initiative to give employees a safe and supportive place to have candid discussions about important issues affecting our work and our lives. Employees learned from experts and participated in open forums, each focused on a specific topic, such as islamophobia, transgender inclusion and unconscious bias.
  • Our Supplier Diversity department advocates and supports the business development of diverse suppliers through networking and training opportunities.
