Company to host “What Works for Working Parents: Inspiration and Insights” Twitter Chat today

Today Working Mother announced that General Mills has earned a spot on the Top Ten of Working Mother magazine’s 2013 100 Best Companies list for its commitment to progressive workplace programs, including child care, workplace flexibility, career advancement and paid family leave. General Mills has made Working Mother’s 100 Best Companies list for 18 consecutive years and, according to Working Mother, is the only Minnesota-based company to make the list.

“We take great pride in receiving this recognition from Working Mother as one of the most family-friendly companies in the U.S.,” said Ken Charles, chief diversity and staffing officer for General Mills. “We strive to create a performance-driven yet supportive workplace culture in which working parents can thrive.”

To celebrate the achievement and continue the dialogue on the topic of working parents, General Mills will host a Twitter Chat today at Noon Central/1 p.m. Eastern called "What Works for Working Parents: Inspiration & Insights."  Twitter users may follow @GeneralMills to participate and respond to a series of questions on the topic by using the hashtag #genmillschat.

Common themes, inspiration and insights from the Twitter Chat will be recapped on the company’s corporate blog, A Taste of General Mills. General Mills and the other 100 Best Companies are featured in the October/November issue of Working Mother, including a General Mills company profile and an employee profile (4th profile in slideshow).

Carol Evans, president of Working Mother Media, said, “Now in its 28th year, the Working Mother 100 Best Companies are leaders in building initiatives that truly support all employees. They are the vanguard of successful companies, with modern policies for American families.”

Also today, Working Mother announced that it has declared October 15th as the first annual National Flex Day to encourage support for workplace flexibility.

General Mills has a long history of offering flexible work programs to support employees.  The company currently offers a variety of formal and informal flexibility options such as part-time work, job sharing, flexible hours, telecommuting and phase back to work options.
