Lately we’ve heard that artificial ingredients aren’t what you are looking for in your cereal today.

And the good news is…

Ninety percent of our cereals today are made without artificial flavors or colors from artificial sources, and have been that way for a long time

We’re working  to remove those ingredients from the rest of our cereals.

  • We continue to lower sugar in our family favorite cereals
  • We do not use high fructose corn syrup

Changing our products takes time because our goal is to deliver the best cereals with the great taste your family loves.

For example, there’s less sugar in your family’s cereal today. We began that work in 2007.

What is changing about my cereal? 
We are removing artificial flavors and colors from artificial sources from the rest of our cereals. Today, 90 percent of our cereals are free from artificial flavors and colors from artificial sources. For delicious flavors, Cinnamon Toast Crunch uses real cinnamon, Cocoa Puffs & Reese’s Puffs use real cocoa, and Honey Nut Cheerios uses real honey. And for fun colors, Trix and Fruity Cheerios use extract from blueberries, purple carrots, and turmeric.

Will it taste or look different?
Our goal is to maintain the great taste you love in our products today. The majority of our cereals will look the same, while a few will look slightly different as we remove colors from artificial sources.

Which cereals are changing and when?
Most recently, we released four new cereal recipes made without artificial flavors and colors from artificial sources, including Basic 4, Cookie Crisp, Raisin Nut Bran and French Toast Crunch, and can be found on shelves nationwide.

With these new recipes, now 90 percent of General Mills Cereal is free from artificial flavors and colors from artificial sources.

What ingredients are you removing? What ingredients are you using instead?
We are removing artificial flavors and colors from artificial sources. Instead, we will be using ingredients like fruit and vegetable juice and spice extracts for color and natural flavors like vanilla.

Is your food safe to eat?

Yes. All colors or flavors we use are approved by global food safety agencies.
