What types of technologies is General Mills interested in?

General Mills is interested in technologies that would be applicable to one of our current lines of business, which include:
  • Baking products (cakes, brownies, frosting, etc.)
  • Cereal
  • Frozen vegetables
  • Frozen pastries
  • Frozen pizza and snacks
  • Refrigerated and frozen dough (bread, cookies, biscuits, rolls, etc.)
  • Shelf-stable meals, meal kits, soups and side dishes
  • Snacks bars, fruit snacks, popcorn, salty snacks
  • Yogurt and yogurt beverages
  • Soy beverages
  • In addition, we are always interested in any new innovative foods or packaging technologies that you have outside of our current areas of business.

    What if I don't have a patent?

    You must have a patent on your technology, or have a patent pending, to submit your technology to General Mills. For more information on how to apply for a patent, you can visit the US Patent Office Web site.

    What if my patent isn't on a technology?

    We can only accept technology - we cannot accept any advertising, marketing or promotions ideas. You may want to visit out Business Proposals site to see if your submission qualifies under our program accepting marketing communications or corporate training proposals.     What if my patent is filed but not yet published?

    You can still submit your technology, but you need to provide the application number and the date the patent was filed.

    Why can't you accept confidential information?

    In order to review and respond to submissions in a timely manner and to meet legal requirements of handling confidential information, we cannot accept confidential information at this initial phase in the process. If, after our preliminary review, we are interested in pursuing your technology further, we will sometimes ask that you sign a confidentiality agreement to allow for further exchange of information.

    What is done with my information after I submit it?

    First, a member of our G-WIN team reviews your submission to ensure it is complete. Then one or more of our technology specialists reviews your submission for its technical merit and to assess whether it has potential application to one of our businesses.

    How do I contact you to check on the status of my submission?

    We are not able to provide status updates for individual submissions during the review process. You will receive confirmation that we have received your submission. Depending on the complexity of your technology, it may take up to three months before we are able to respond to you with the outcome of our review of your submission.

    Will General Mills give me reasons should it choose not to pursue my technology submission?

    No, we will not be able to give you any additional information about the results of our review.
