General Mills sponsors up to 50,000 youths annually as they pursue the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award. This is a positive way to encourage kids to remain active and physically fit.
In one year, for example, we had nearly 25,000 children in the Minneapolis Public School District alone take the challenge through the sponsorship of the General Mills Foundation.
Young people earn the PALA by committing to an hour of physical activity five days a week, and then maintaining a physical activity log for six weeks.
What kind of activities? Anything involving large muscle movement, whether alone, with friends or on sports teams.
