helping manage your weight

General Mills tries to help with weight management by offering great-tasting, lower-calorie options. We try to reduce calories per serving, offer products in portion-appropriate packages, and highlight nutritional and calorie information.

We offer detailed guidance for you at eatbetteramerica.com, but here are a few easy tips:

  • Fill up, but on fewer calories. Water and fiber provide no calories, yet eating foods with a high water and fiber content can help you feel full. These foods include broth-based soups, fruits and vegetables. Avoid fats, which pack in plenty of calories per ounce.
  • Eat breakfast. Studies conclude breakfast skippers tend to weigh more than those who eat breakfast. In a study of 3,000 people who lost at least 30 pounds each, 90 percent of them who ate breakfast almost daily maintained that weight loss for at least one year.
  • Grab the whole grain. In a 12-year study of more than 70,000 nurses, those who ate more whole grains weighed less than those who ate fewer whole grains. Consumption of whole grains also was linked to restricting weight gain over time.
  • Stay active. It burns calories, but exercise also strengthens bones and muscles, relieves stress and enhances self-esteem. And exercise doesn't have to be formal. Walk the dog. Take the stairs. Dig in the garden. It all counts.
