brand partnerships

Our brands align with specific philanthropic efforts through brand partnerships — drawing attention to causes and providing needed financial resources for important programs.

Boxtops for Education

Our largest initiative, Box Tops for Education has provided over $220 million to America's schools since its inception. At last count, more than 90,000 K-8 schools were enrolled in the Box Tops for Education program — and over 22 million households clip Box Tops to help earn money for their schools. Box Tops for Education is unique, allowing schools to decide what items to buy with the funds they receive from the program. From field trips to computers to new furnaces, schools are able to purchase what the children in their school need.

Yoplait has focused on the fight against breast cancer, and in the past eight years has given more than $17 million to the cause through its Save Lids to Save Lives program. Yoplait has increased its financial commitment to the program each year and, in 2005, donated more than $2 million to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Spoonfuls of Stories®

Spoonfuls of Stories is a new partnership that is already having an impact on children's literacy. Since 2002, the Cheerios brand has donated over $2.0 million to First Book, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to giving new books to children from low-income families, through the Spoonfuls of Stories program. In addition, through Spoonfuls of Stories, more than 25 million high quality children's books have been given away free inside boxes of Cheerios cereal.

Disaster Relief

General Mills has a long history of supporting communities affected by disaster. In recent years General Mills has committed millions of dollars to communities affected by 9/11, the tsunami in Southern Asia, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Pakistan Earthquake, the I-35W Bridge Collapse, and the Southeastern Minnesota Flooding.

Hurricane Relief Efforts

In response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the General Mills Foundation contributed $1,000,000 in cash relief aid and $1,000,000 in product.

Pakistan Earthquake Relief

In response to the earthquake in Pakistan, General Mills and the General Mills Foundation contributed $250,000 to relief organizations including Pakistan Red Crescent, a member of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the world's largest humanitarian organization.

I-35W Bridge Collapse

In response to the devastating collapse of the I-35W bridge, the General Mills Foundation contributed $50,000 to the American Red Cross. The General Mills Riverside Technical Center, just blocks away from the collapse site, opened its doors to rescue workers providing them with food and a place to rest.

Southeastern Minnesota Flooding

When widespread flash floods hit Southeastern parts of Minnesota, General Mills and the General Mills Foundation responded with product donations and a $25,000 contribution to the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation. This foundation established the Business Recovery Fund to help rebuild the businesses affected by the flooding.
