Job Overview

Account Operations Specialist

The account operations specialist manages multiple components of one or more General Mills customers. Works closely with the General Mills sales representative and customer on financial and service-related issues. The account operations specialist is responsible for continually improving efficiency and effectiveness for assigned customers. Our customers are the grocery and restaurant wholesale, chain customers, mass merchandisers, drug and discount stores, and bakeries throughout the United States. As a part of the Consumer Foods Sales division, we provide superior and responsive support to those customers.

The account operations specialist's accountabilities include:

  • General Mills One-Stop Service contact for assigned customers.
  • Receive and process millions of dollars in sales annually.
  • Audit and distribute promotional monies to customers.
  • Develop action plan to collect and eliminate financial discrepancies.
  • Identify solutions that meet customers' needs and expectations using resources available.

Training and Development

The Customer Service Organization offers an initial three week training session followed by one-on-one training. Other development opportunities are offered through courses at the General Mills Institute. These classes include PC tools and systems, various business overviews and personal development courses.

Our account operation specialists typically stay in their first assignment approximately 18 months. The next career opportunity would typically be an account operations specialist II, which includes work with Vendor Managed Inventory. These positions have the potential of a direct career path within the Customer Service Organization to the senior manager level in addition to opportunities in the Sales division. Our positions provide exposure to various areas of the company allowing you to be an integral team member of the General Mills Customer Service Organization.

Education

Competitive candidates have a bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or liberal arts.
